TENS application for arm pain

Man with arm pain, which can be treated with a TENS device

In most cases, treating the arm with a TENS device leads to a rapid reduction in pain. Muscle tension or poor blood circulation can often be improved in this way[1]. With continuous use, freedom from pain can also be achieved with chronic pain.

By stimulating the nerve tissue with TENS stimulation current, the pain stimulus is no longer passed on. Depending on the TENS treatment method, the body's own pain-relieving endorphins can also be released to combat pain.[2]

Electrode placement for arm pain

Place the electrodes as shown in the picture. The electrodes should isolate the painful area. For the application we recommend the 5x5 cm electrodes, which can be used universally for almost all types of pain.

Please note when using TENS:

The intensity should be adjusted so that it is felt as a pleasant tingling sensation. The duration of the application should be approx. 40 minutes in order to be able to achieve a lasting reduction in pain. It also makes sense to switch programs every now and then.

Causes of Arm Pain

It should be noted that arm pain can often be caused by tension in the neck. The so-called "mouse arm" is caused by working on the PC, with repetitive arm movements and clicking the mouse.

The use of smartphones or tablets can also lead to monotonous movements. The fingers, hand and wrist, arm, shoulder and often the neck are affected. It is therefore advisable to include the cervical spine area in the treatment. The neck electrode is recommended here.
